Drunk Driver Hits and Kills Elderly Woman in Los Banos

LOS BANOS, Calif. (FOX26) — An accused DUI driver has been arrested following a fatal crash in Los Banos.

The Los Banos Police Department says the crash happened on September 26th in the 1600 Block of West I Street.

Officers say a driver, later identified as 35-year-oldApril Sadie Noriega, was speeding in her 2011 Acura TL when she slammed into 5 cars, including a parked vehicle.

A 65-year-old woman was sitting in her vehicle in front of her home when Noriega slammed into her.

As officers arrived, they found an off-duty Los Banos Firefighter who was performing CPR on the older woman.

Unfortunately, the woman died from her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Noriega and an adult male passenger were transported to a Modesto area trauma center following the crash, where she stayed hospitalized overnight.

Officers say Noriega was drinking before the crash and her blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit.

Police were unable to find Noriega until October 8th, when she met with a Merced County Sheriff’s Deputy for a report on an unrelated matter.

Noriega met with the Sheriff’s Deputy in the Volta area of unincorporated Merced County.

The deputy ran Noriega’s name and learned she was wanted for the outstanding felony warrant.

Noriega was booked into the Los Banos Police Department where she remains in custody in lieu of $250,000.00 bail.
